I love the Lego Movie so much, and I connected with Unikitty’s thinly-veiled anger issues on a spiritual level, so I figured I’d make an animation out of the (clearly) most important character.

My inner child. Right there.#THELEGOMOVIE #UNIKITTY

FAKE GEEK GUYS: A MESSAGE TO MEN ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT
By Andy Khouri
“I think this woman is wrong about something on the Internet. Clearly my best course of action is to threaten her with rape.”
That’s crazy talk, right? So why does it happen all the time?
Honest question, dudes.
That women are harassed online is not news. That women in comics and the broader fandom cultures are harassed online is not news. That these women are routinely transmitted anonymous messages describing graphic sexual violence perpetrated upon them for transgressions as grave as not liking a thing… that is actually news to me, and it’s probably news to a lot of you guys reading this.
So what do we do about it?
This.

Not gonna lie; it’s been a really awful week in comics.Hopefully something constructive, far-reaching and industry-changing comes out of this whole mess of sexism and misogyny, and dudes get called out on their bad behaviour & learn the #1 top level vital lesson, that rape threats are NEVER AN OPTION, GUYS! Hopefully comic professionals finally understand that they cannot change the increasingly strong tread of women entering -and- staying in the field, in all and every aspects: writing, drawing, inking, editing, reporting, mentoring and in leadership roles. That all women in the comic industry have a say. All. Of. Them. That feminism doesn’t mean their POV becomes immediately invalid. Also, please support gimpnelly in her comic industry harassment survey. Thanks.

DEAR MEN IN COMICS:

THE COST FOR WOMEN IN COMICS OF DOING BUSINESS IS TOO HIGH.

You need to help lower the price of women doing business in comics and in comics fandom to only the hard work. Not the hard work plus ducking threats online and off of violence, dodging groping, inappropriate advances, joking at the expense of the fat girl, the not “hot” girl, picking up and carrying around the short girl, creepshotting the cosplayer, stalking the professional.
You know, sexism. Violence. Attacks intended to create doubt and fear.

THE COST FOR WOMEN IN COMICS OF DOING BUSINESS IS TOO DAMN HIGH.

CALL OUT OTHER GUYS. If women doing this for themselves really really worked, I wouldn’t have to be saying this.
Start culling guys from your personal and professional circles that are bad citizens, that you have to apologize for.

CALL OUT MISOGYNY AND SEXISM. Intervene. Speak up. Vocally reject things like the “Big Cans” promotion at NYCC on your blogs, Twitter, tumblr, Facebook, right then and there when it happens.

THE COST FOR WOMEN IN COMICS OF DOING BUSINESS IS TOO DAMN HIGH. We’ve been paying and paying. I’ve paid with my health, self-esteem, and sense of safety. Other women have paid more.

THE COST FOR WOMEN IN COMICS OF DOING BUSINESS IS TOO FUCKING HIGH.
Men, help us lower that cost so it’s the SAME AS YOURS: hard work.

(Please share the hell out of this)

BOLD emphasis = mine.

Thanks Jesse! People kept telling me they’ve seen this on tumblr, and NOW I KNOW WHY.
I love sharing art (my own and others), but please keep the original source. It’s really not that hard.

This is so adorable ^_^ Love it !

gimpnelly:

I’m working on a new journalism project that involves stories of sexual harassment in the comics industry. Primarily I want to hear stories about comics professionals (creators, editors, executives, marketers, journalists, retailers, convention organizers, etc. etc. but not fans) who have harassed people.  Any (or no) gender on either side of the equation. Any stories that are told to me will not be published without your permission and working with you to figure out how you want your story told (anonymously, without naming names, etc.). The important thing for me is that we establish how common harassment is and hopefully point out some of those missing stairs in the industry.

If you want to talk to me, you can drop me a line at janelle.m.asselin at gmail.com.
